The Many Manifestations of our Abbey
Monthly Events
The Abbey’s two anchor recurring events, Singing with the Sisters at the Green Lantern and Sisters Bingo at Red Bear Brewing. Together these form the
steady heartbeat of the Abbey’s community presence.
Novice Projects
Events organized and led by Novices as part of their journey through our Abbey. Some of our novice projects are now our beloved events!
Pride Events
DC Pride, Baltimore Pride, Reston Pride, Howard County Pride, and other regional celebrations. The Abbey marches, festivals, and shows up in full habit.
Protests, Marches and Vigils
Political actions, solidarity marches, and community vigils. From the steps of the Supreme Court to the street outside the Russian Ambassador’s residence, the Abbey answers every call.
Leather Community Support
Leather Weekend events and the leather community’s own bake sale tradition of Miss Scarlet’s and now Violet’s which the Abbey has supported since the early years.
Security and Door Work
Events where Sisters provided door security and event support for the community.
Bar Ministry
Presence and ministry at community bars and nightlife venues like DC’s Trade Bar and Green Lantern, and Baltimore’s Club Car. Where the community gathers, the Sisters appear.
Spiritual and Liturgical
Sacred and ceremonial manifestations blessings, masses, memorial services, elevation ceremonies, and the Abbey’s own liturgical traditions.
Community Support and Charity
Fundraisers, benefits, and solidarity events for causes and organizations serving the community
Transgender and Intersectional Events
Transgender, intersex and two-spirit pride, visibility, and remembrance events. Our Abbey shows up for the full community.
Community Festivals and Special Events
Annual and one-of-a-kind community events such as the High Heel Race, Cherry Blossom Festival, Renaissance Faire, Gay Day at the Zoo, Miss Adams Morgan,
and more.
Retreats and Conclaves
Internal Abbey gatherings, regional conclaves, and the annual DC Sisters retreat where the community deepens its bonds and the Abbey’s mission is
renewed.
